Agreed Jeffrey, Sling TV has improved their offering. With the competition out there it made sense for them to do so. They’re definitely one of the higher alternatives out there.

Great comments! Sling has improved. My wife loves Hallmark and Sling gives you three Hallmark channels. DVR is a plus. Free Roku is a plus. We don’t care about sports so Sling is good.
Also Cooking Channel included with the Hallmark add on for $5.

We then did a 7 day trial of direct TV now. We are very pleased with the service. So far no buffering issues and all of the channels we watch are included in the $35 a month basic package. It comes with 60 channels. So up front it is a way better value than sling is. It also has a guide set up just like cable so you can surf through the channels. No dvr yet but their site says its coming soon. We are going to drop cable and just use direct TV now and Netflix. Those two programs combined with all of the free streaming content on roku meet all of our tv/ movie needs. We will be saving around $100 a month.

You’re right, to a certain extent Cat. The base packages for Sling TV only allows you to stream on one TV at a time. Their higher packages allow for three. Another option is DirecTV Now as they allow for two streaming devices at the same time. With either, once you start streaming on an extra device it’ll kick you out of the other.

I must have missed it on their web site but did I understand you to say the monthly cost is only for one TV? If I want to watch it on more than one TV I have to pay for each TV? We have a total of 4 TVs and usually 3 of them are being watched at one time. Am I not able to “share” Sling between the 4 sets?

I don’t know that I’ve ever said how “great” Amazon Prime movies are. I do list them as a benefit, which they are. Yes, their choices aren’t always the best and they do charge at times (I’ve run into a very similar situation as you described) but that doesn’t mean they’re not a benefit of having a Prime membership. That’s also not to mention the fact that no streaming service is perfect. I’d much rather pay a few bucks the few times I want to watch a movie than to keep a cable subscription that costs significantly more.

The one movie was over two years old and they still wanted me to pay $2.99 to watch it. I don’t understand what is so great about Prime movies.

Sorry to hear about the overcharge! Yes, you very well could find some of those channels on other providers and save big money. Just find what’s most important for you to have and go with that offering.
